OK, Pauline Ducruet is Princess Stephanie’s daughter, and of course it has piqued our curiosity, especially now, as family is our current obsession!!! But Ducruet is first a 25 years old young woman, passionate about fashion, who’s been dreaming about fashion since she was a little girl. She’s studied at Istituto Marangoni in Paris and then at the Parsons School of Design in NYC, where she’s been living for the last 5 years. In 2019, she created ALTER, a clothing brand with a no gender DNA, for men and women, mixing classical pieces such as satin trench coats or more edgy items with recycled denim. In short, a label well rooted in its time.
We have interviewed Pauline Ducruet at her presentation during Paris last fashion week.
The Family interview.
Are you a lonely girl or an ‘always-with-my-gang’ girl ?
Both. When I’m in the middle of the creative process, I need loneliness times. But my crew of friends is very important to me. Most of them came to support me for the Paris presentation.
We saw prior to the show a video with a gender fluid oriented casting (with Dustin, the twins Jake and Joseph). Is this community your adopted family ?
Yes it’s a community of which I feel very close. I’m living in NYC, in an artistic environment, it was natural to me to include them in my show and my video opening.
Alter, clothes for the whole family ?
Yes totally! Alter provides inclusive pieces for all ages and all genders. My sister, my brother, my mum, even my dad are wearing Alter clothes.
We don’t present your mum, Princess Stephanie, who has been a fashion icon in the 80’s (with her swimwear brand), is she appearing on your inspirational moodboards ?
No pictures of my mum pinned on my moodboards, but obviously she has been unconsciously an inspirational source. This strong 80’s imagery is deeply fixed inside me. On my moodboards, you can find pictures of the anti-establishment movements from the 70’s, 80’s, 90’s… I’ve always been attracted by the counterculture. I’m a big fan of David Bowie, Grace Jones.
‘Family I hate you’ or ‘Family I love you’.
What a question ! ‘Family I love you’ of course !!!!! They’re always behind me, extremely supportive, always up to travel long distances to attend a show ! We are a very close family, unified and solid, a real clan.
Here are sommes pictures of the presentation of her second collection, shown in Paris on the 26th February.
